MEXICO CITY?? Mexican authorities have identified two federal police officers who shot dead three of their colleagues at Mexico City's international airport this week and say the shooters were part of a trafficking ring that flew in cocaine from Peru.
Luis Cardenas Palomino, the federal police's regional security chief, said Thursday that the slain officers were trying to arrest officer Zeferino Morales Franco at the food court of the airport's Terminal 2 when agent Daniel Cruz Garcia arrived and shot the arresting officers from behind.
Authorities are also looking for a third officer, Bogard Felipe Lugo de Leon, who is the suspects' supervisor and who abandoned his post at the airport shortly after the shooting, Palomino said. The three remain at large.
The government is offering a $360,000 reward leading to the capture of the officers, who Palomino described as "traitors."
Photographs on Lugo's Facebook page show him holding a high-powered rifle and handguns, and posing in front of his patrol car or a federal police airplane. He also has photos of himself carrying a baby girl he identifies as his 7-month-old daughter.
Lugo's comments on his Facebook page seem to suggest he was recently assigned to Mexico City's airport and that before then he was in the resort city of Cancun.
Palomino said that for several months authorities had been investigating a cocaine trafficking ring that involved passengers arriving from Peru's capital, Lima. He said other government officials working at the airport are involved but didn't identify them.
"We know there must be other authorities involved in trafficking and that's what we are investigating," he said.
Passengers would allegedly bring cocaine hidden on their body or in their luggage, and drop it off in bathrooms before reaching the immigration and customs check area.
Corrupt officials would then circle back to pick up the drugs, Palomino said.
The federal Public Safety Department had conducted an 18-month investigation into corrupt federal police officers and other officials who were part of the alleged cocaine trafficking ring. The operation has seized 648 pounds (294 kilograms) of cocaine at the airport, Palomino said.

Ghent, Belgium, has unusual rental built around the top of the clock tower of the city?s Sint-Pieters train station ? part inn, part art exhibit.
Since January, seven passengers arriving from Lima have been detained carrying cocaine, he added.
On Monday, the day of the shooting, federal officers watching surveillance cameras saw Morales go into a bathroom shortly after the arrival of a flight from Lima. Two officers approached Morales once he was in the food court area and told their boss in a radio call that he was carrying drugs; that's when the officers were attacked, Palomino said.
A third officer who was nearby for support fired at the attackers but he was wounded and later died at a hospital, he said.
The shooting sent terrified people waiting for their flights diving to the floor for protection.
Palomino said Morales and Garcia got away in a taxi. He said phone records show Morales called Lugo as he was leaving the airport.
Surveillance cameras captured Lugo leaving in his own car, he said.

The Dolphin browser has earned quite a following, by offering a healthy mix of speed and features. Now the company is opening up its offerings to further expansion though an open API service called Garage. The new portal opens up 150 APIs to third party developers who might want to build upon Dolphin's solid browser base, or integrate their web apps. As part of the launch of the Garage, four new add-ons have been added to the Dolphin repository. Dropbox, Evernote, Pocket and Wikipedia all now tie directly in to the browser's UI, exposing all the important features of those services. For more, check out the PR after the break and the Garage portal at the source.

This 12 months sees the arrival of range-prolonged fashions, the Chevrolet Volt and Vauxhall Ampera whereas new plug-in hybrids such because the Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid and Toyota Prius Plug-In also arrive. These REEV and PHEV models are additionally eligible for the Plug-In Automotive Grants due to their means to recharge from mains electrical energy and their emission levels below 75g/km CO2.
As a no-compromise sort of alternative gasoline automotive, with longer driving ranges than absolutely electrical models, you can make certain that non-public motorists can be eager to observe the place business automotive drivers lead.
Although a range-extended and a plug-in hybrid drivetrain are barely completely different in the way they operate, they're very comparable in many ways; they each mix a combustion engine (either petrol or diesel) with an electric motor and battery, in the same method a conventional hybrid does. Unlike early hybrid fashions however, PHEVs and REEVs can replenish their batteries from mains electrical energy to allow them to make higher use of clean, zero emission electric driving, boosting the car?s overall gas efficiency.

In the auto body world, there is still a difference between major and minor collision damage, but you?re not likely to see it reflected in the bill any more. Today?s cars are mostly built with unibody frames, made of lighter materials and designed to absorb impact?great for safety and fuel efficiency, not so great when it comes to repair. Knowing the difference between major and minor collision damage and what it takes to repair it may help you understand your quotes and why even fender benders can cost over $1,000 to fix.
We?ll get to what we mean my major collision damage shortly, but insurance companies deem a car undrivable if certain systems or signals are impaired. Immediate repairs are needed for:
Driving an ?undrivable? car could create coverage headaches down the road. While you may technically be able to drive a car with some of these issues, it?s best not to.
The real distinction between minor and major collision damage has to do with the depth of the damage?whether or not the damage affected the vehicle?s integrity or structural support. For instance, damage to a door panel may be minor?limited to the skin (outer panel) or major?affecting an interior intrusion beam. In this example, repairing minor damage may involve repairing the outer panel by hammering out dents, sanding and repainting (we?re simplifying, of course) or replacing the outer panel. Repairing major damage, however, requires replacing the entire door. What repairs are needed must be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Some damage is nearly always ?major,? like damage to the hood of your car. The hood is designed to crumple to absorb the impact rather than continue to transfer the momentum to the car?s passengers. Attempting to hammer out a damaged hood compromises the component?s ability to absorb subsequent impact, which significantly increases the risk of injury for those inside.
Some damage is more cost-effective when treated as ?major,? even if it isn?t. There are some pieces like bumpers that may be salvaged rather than replaced. But to get a damaged bumper and the area surrounding it to look like new requires a lot of labor. In many situations, replacing a bumper or a panel is more cost-effective. You may request aftermarket or reconditioned components be used in the repair to keep costs down. However, depending on the piece,?OEM parts may be recommended for safety and/or warranty reasons.
For all damage?minor or major?you want to restore your car to its pre-collision appearance (or better). That requires a professional paint job, and that is often a significant portion of the repair bill.
If there are ever costs for your repairs that you don?t understand, ask. A reputable garage like Quanz Advanced Auto Care will be happy to explain the cost for both parts and labor necessary to restore your car?s appearance and ensure it is safe to drive.

Reading Rainbow (free to download, $9.99 per month) is an updated, interactive version of the beloved children's television show, with kids engaging with books directly on their iPad. Kids can tap through a library of books and either read the story themselves or have the app read the story aloud. The illustrations have been enhanced with cute little animations and each book comes with a game. Kids are also rewarded with "stickers" each time they finish a new book. The Reading Rainbow app for the iPad does what the television show did successfully for 26 years: grab the kids' attention with beautiful illustrations and get them reading.
Parents who grew up watching the show on PBS until its abrupt cancellation in 2009 would recognize the familiar rainbow logo and the host, LeVar Burton. Burton is back as the host and the main narrator in the app. The TV show interspersed clips of Burton going on "field trips" and talking about an unusual location, such as the ship's cargo area, in between stories. The iPad version brings clips from the original show back, as kids can choose between books and Burton's videos.
Reading Rainbow is listed under the Education category in the iTunes App Store and the app is free to download. Kids get access to one book for free after installing the app. Additional books require a subscription, at $9.99 a month or $29.99 for six months. The subscription is for unlimited access, so kids can grab as many books as they want for that same price. There didn't seem to be any such restriction on the video clips.
The brand name is not going to mean much to younger kids, but it will strike a chord with the parents (I plead guilty!) who will be the ones paying for the monthly subscription. Reading Rainbow is an easy pick as an Editors' Choice as an educational app.
How We Reviewed the App
The app targets kids aged four to nine so I decided to include my sons in the review. I downloaded and installed the app and handed the iPad2 over to my six year old, who already knew how to read. After he went through the app, I uninstalled and re-installed again (with another Apple ID) to give his younger brother, almost four, a chance to play. The four year old knows his letters and the sounds letters make but is not yet reading. They were both absorbed with the beautiful illustrations and easy controls, and complained loudly when I reclaimed the tablet to check out the app myself.
The first time it runs, the app plays a video of Burton describing the app's goals and how kids can use it. The video is clearly aimed for the parents, but there's no way to skip the clip other than fast-forwarding through it. Right after that infomercial, kids are encouraged to "register" by creating their profiles. After creating a profile, the kids go through a quick interactive tutorial to learn how to use the interface. The Reading Child was a little frustrated at how long he had to wait before he could really get started with a book. I learned my lesson and ran the app once to get past that initial video when it was Pre-Reading Child's turn.
The Book Islands
The books are categorized by theme, such as "Action Adventures & Magical Tales," "Genius Academy," "Animal Kingdom," and "My Friends Family." Visually, they are represented as floating islands in the sky. The boys swiped through the sky to browse through the various islands before tapping on one to select the category. It was easy for non-readers to figure out some of the categories by just looking at the pictures. For example, the Animal Kingdom island was an island overflowing with giraffes, lions, a zebra, and an elephant.
Once the boys selected the island, the interface opened up as a book shelf, filled with books. The same books can appear across multiple categories. After the boys selected a title, the interface changed to look like a page in an old book (with yellowed pages?a nice visual touch) displaying a short description of the book and a prompt to confirm the selection. Reading Child had no problem selecting "yes" or "no" after reading the description, but Pre-Reading Child wanted to know why we had to confirm again when we'd already picked out the book.
The theme song on the show may have been, "Butterfly in the sky, I can go twice as high," but the app uses hot air balloons for its theme, as they are all over the place.
The Personalized Companion
When the boys started the app, they registered with their names, ages, and gender, and then picked out three topics they liked (wizards & fairies, sports, ocean adventures, things that go, princes and princesses, space & beyond, travel & adventure, animals, and pirates). The registration process also asked for the parents' email address, which I didn't let the kids enter. If I'd entered the email address, the app would have automatically opted me into receiving updates and other information by email. I dislike apps and sites that assume opt-in; I would have preferred the box to be unchecked. I had the option to subscribe, or start the free trial.
I couldn't figure out a way to have multiple profiles, so that Reading Child and Pre-Reading Child could enter their own names and category preferences. For the review, they entered their own names and put in their own interests for each instance that I installed. In a real situation, I would have probably combined their names during the profile selection, and had them agree on which topics to pre-select, to "share" the profile. Considering the effort the app made to "customize" the experience for the child, the one-size-for-all-siblings felt a little odd. It would be an issue if there was an age gap between siblings, as well, since the book recommendations are age-based.

Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari, arrested last week after his deportation from Saudi Arabia, has told Indian authorities that Pakistani military and intelligence officials participated in planning the 2008 attack.
By Tom A. Peter,?Correspondent / June 26, 2012
Indian authorities have arrested a man believed to have been remotely directing the terrorists?who carried out the 2008 Mumbai attack that killed 166 people.

Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari, who is also known as Abu Jundal, was arrested after officials in Saudi Arabia deported him at the request of the Indian government. Mr. Ansari is believed to be the only Indian who took part in the attack, orchestrated by Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Indian officials say that since his arrest on June 21, Mr. Ansari has played a critical part in potentially revealing the role of the Pakistani government and intelligence service in the attack. In custody, the LeT member has reportedly already told Indian authorities that officials from the Pakistan?s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and military participated in planning the three-day attack on Mumbai.
India has long accused Pakistan of involvement in the attack, something that officials in Islamabad have denied. If Indian authorities verify Ansari?s claims, it is likely to strain relations even further between the two neighbors and isolate Pakistan on the international stage.
?His confession would make it harder to deny the state links to the attack,? said a retired, senior Indian intelligence officer in an article by the Hindustan Times.
The Hindustan Times adds that cooperation between Saudi and Indian intelligence officials has increased markedly over the past two years as the Gulf state sees India?s rich potential as a growing oil market. Traditionally, Saudi Arabia has been a strong ally of Pakistan.
B. Raman, a retired Indian intelligence official, writes in Outlook India that despite India?s initial excitement over Ansari?s arrest, authorities still must confirm his identity. In addition to his Abu Jundal alias, he is believed to also have gone by the name, Abu Hamza. Mr. Raman explains that Abu Hamza has long been a popular nickname for LeT members dating back to the 1990s, making it difficult to confirm identities.
He is presently in police custody. But?India?s anti-terrorism squad, however, says it is confident it can identify whether Ansari is the Abu Hamza and Abu Jundal wanted for the Mumbai attacks once he is in their custody.?
?We hope they have the right man. It can be confirmed only when we get access to him,? an anti-terrorism squad official told India Today.
As the only Indian national, Ansari is said to have relocated to Pakistan and?played a critical role in training the attackers how to operate in Mumbai. According to Indian detectives, Ansari coached the gunmen of the Mumbai attacks on how to make the terrorist plot appear to be homegrown by saying they were Indian Muslims from the Tolichowki area of Hyderbad, reports The Guardian. The gunmen were also instructed to say the attack was revenge for the treatment of Muslims in Kashmir.
?He knows a lot. He claims that they prepared for years for the 26/11 attack and every person was assigned a separate task. Being a Maharashtrian, he was given the task to familiarize the killers with local dialect as well as Mumbai's topography. He instructed the gang on how to ask for directions and what to say if checked and quizzed,? said an Indian official familiar with the details of the interrogation according to the Times of India.

(This mini-profile was published today on the Austin Legal News blog.) Justin Townsend has amassed the perfect background, as far as preparing him for where he is today as an accomplished lawyer at the highly respected law firm of Slack & Davis.
Before joining Slack & Davis, Townsend practiced at Mithoff & Jacks, concentrating principally on commercial litigation, personal injury law and products liability. After leaving that firm, he opened his own law office and handled cases representing buyers and sellers in breach-of-contract disputes over purchases of aircraft; tortious interference with prospective aviation business relations; and a commercial case defending a company and its owner against a suit brought by a Fortune 500 corporation.
Both experiences were formative for Townsend, who in 2006 was elected to the Board of Directors of the Advocates section (for members with fewer than 10 years of practice) of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. He is an active member of the Lawyers Pilots Bar Association, the Capital Area Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice (formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America), the Texas Young Lawyers Association and the Austin Young Lawyers Association.
That track record and the respect he has earned from his peers made him a good candidate for this week?s Wednesday Interview.
1. Describe your legal practice.
My legal practice primarily involves complex commercial disputes with an emphasis on aviation litigation. Within the realm of business or corporate jet litigation, I represent both individual and corporate owners, flight departments, aircraft managers, and operators on both sides of the bar. I also conduct risk assessments and evaluations for owners, buyers, sellers, operators, and flight departments.
2. What are the biggest challenges of those you interact with on the legal front, and what is the key to helping them resolve those challenges?
One of the biggest challenges I face is taking complex factual scenarios that may involve hyper-technical aviation issues and relating those to a jury who may know very little about the aviation industry. Multimillion dollar cases can turn on the smallest of factual, technical, or legal issues and often it takes numerous experts to even speculate as to what factors are relevant. It is essential to find a way to translate these often esoteric concepts into a narrative that speaks to the jury. It is my job to humanize my clients and ensure that, even in a dispute between large corporations, I can tell a story that not only informs but also motivates the jury.
3. What are the advantages to practicing law in Austin?
The single best advantage to practicing in Austin is that I get to work in my hometown. I travel a good bit and handle cases all over the world. It is enjoyable to work in so many diverse areas but I love that I can retain a global practice while being based in Austin.
4. How would you improve the legal profession if you could?
I would challenge some people?s perception that practicing law is no longer a noble profession. It is incredibly disconcerting to see good lawyers attacked under the guise of tort reform exclusively for political gain. Attorneys provide a check and balance against those who would deny justice to all and close the courthouse doors. Each and every person is entitled to hold wrongdoers accountable, and lawyers ensure that the scales of justice remain balanced for everybody. Thomas Jefferson once said that he considered ?trial by jury as the only anchor ever yet imagined by man, by which a government can be held to the principles of its constitution.? It is our job to personify those noble words in everything that we do.
5. Who or what was your biggest influence in becoming a lawyer and why?
My grandfather, Cedric Townsend, is the reason I became a lawyer. He was a judge in Paris, Texas, and instilled in me a great love and appreciation of the law. Cedric was a pillar in his community and fought his entire life to ensure that all Texans? access to justice was protected.
Despite losing his arm in an accident as a young man, Cedric accomplished things both professionally and physically that amazed me. He was as adept with one arm as anyone with two, but it took a lot of hard work to get there. His work ethic and ability to adapt continue to motivate me to not only be a better lawyer, but also a better man.

A white version of Sprint's Evo 4G LTE was teased late last week when some advertising materials were inadvertently outed on its website -- which were subsequently changed to show the black version. However, one of our secret army of tipsters has sent in a picture that claims to show an internal document that reveals the handset will come in both ends of the gray scale. Of course, there's no official word yet, but those rumors are sounding more convincing with each passing day. After the break we've got a cropped and zoomed version of the image, with the telling claim on the third bullet point if you fancy judging for yourself.

Women are emotional beings whereas men are logical and more objective.
This has always been the rationale behind the differences between men and women, particularly when it comes to maneuvering through this often convoluted terrain we call love and relationships.? I always thought that to be bulls**t. If anyone ever doubt the emotional proclivity of men, they must have never sat in the presence of men watching sports or read a story about a man brutally killing his ex in a fit of jealous rage.
However, this hasn?t stopped folks from believing that women are not able to sustain friends with benefits relationships the way that men do. The basis has always been that women focus on the friendship, men on the benefits. And while it may start out with a lustful tryst, it eventually turns into more because you, as a woman, are emotional and thus prone to falling in love. ?That?s the general belief anyway.
Last night, I was watching Friends with Benefits, a film that came out last year starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. In the movie, Kunis plays a young and outgoing woman, who was recently dumped and currently works as a corporate headhunter. ?As part of her job, she secures a job for Timberlake?s character as a photo editor at GQ magazine, who too was recently dumped. Anyway, besides a working relationship, the two soon form a friendship where they party, play Wii and write ish all over each other?s faces when one passed out drunk.
One night they are sitting on the couch, watching some sappy Hollywood rom-com (so Meta) when Kunis?s character says: ?God I miss sex. Sometimes you just need it; it?s like cracking your neck.? To which, Timberlake?s character agreed and offered this insight: ?Two people should have sex like people play tennis. Two people play a game and shake hands and go with their s**t.?? Then Justin suggested that they should ?play tennis? together. After swearing on a bible app on Kunis? iPad, the two agreed to have unemotional, uncommitted sex while just being friends. Without spoiling the entire film, let?s just say that their arrangement doesn?t exactly end the same way it started.
But that?s Hollywood for you: they certainly know how to wrap things up in the most optimistic and simplistic packages. In real life though, no strings-attached sex is a little bit more complicated than it implies. I have heard plenty of horror stories from girlfriends and strangers alike about their own misgivings with no strings-attached sex. While sex does not always lead to intimacy, it can often form a feeling of it and can sometimes actually make it occur. And despite initially believing that they could handle the situation, eventually those emotions would kick in, which would cause their lover to either lose interest or distance themselves. Next comes months of frustration, disappointment and in some cases, personal blame for involving yourself in a sex with benefits arrangement.
I also know from my own personal experience in the past where I had fallen head over heels with a guy, whose relationship stopped at my respective bedroom. I remember it un-fondly: we met at a community festival where we both were volunteering for a local non-profit. After a day of flirting, by the end of the night, I was butt naked on my couch. We would see each other several times afterwards, both in purely platonic situations and in more intimate settings. However, after I had confessed to him that my feelings were stronger than what we did with the lights off, he began to alter his interactions with me.? Let?s just say that we didn?t end up like Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake.
This kind of confusion and drama is what normally happens when folks engage in relationships with people that they actually want to have something more real and sustainable with. They think that by making themselves available on their lover?s terms, their lover will one day see the light and realize that the person whom they were looking for was in their lives the whole time. But it rarely works out like that, now does it?
But on the other hand, while anyone can make themselves physically available, those who have had some past trauma from prior relationships and even from childhood or are simply are too busy for a relationship do not have the wherewithal to maintain or invest in a personal and more emotional relationship. And unfortunately, it is the person, who above all undeniable evidence holds out hopes that, their love ? or in this case sex ? will conquer all previous damage, who will ultimately bear the brunt of the damage.? I know this from once being the hoper and eventually becoming the emotionally unavailable party.
Yes, it is true that women too can be unemotionally unavailable, which means that they too are fully capable of entering into not only a no strings attached sexual relationship but purely platonic friendships with the opposite sex. While the desire to love and be loved by one person is a legitimate desire that many women have, for some women that ambition is not currently in the cards. As such, they are fully prepared to play the field or sex whoever they want to while they work on their internal issues ? both free from guilt or commitment.
But generally speaking, those kind of arrangements rarely fair well for anyone. ?For one, there are way too many risks including pregnancy and the threat of STDs. But even if you are the most protected person on the planet, there is no hiding from the fact that folks, regardless of gender, are naturally emotional beings. And eventually someone will end up investing feelings. And that?s when the real drama begins?

Washington -- The Senate's passage Thursday of a nearly $1 trillion farm bill with bipartisan support presented House Republicans and their antideficit Tea Party faction with a huge spending bill that subsidizes large corn and other commodity farmers while spending record sums on food stamps.
The House Agriculture Committee delayed consideration of its version until after Congress returns from its recess July 11. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., ordered a slowdown to assess the political ramifications. The House Republican majority includes several lawmakers from rural states whose championship of farm subsidies has often trumped their claims of fiscal austerity.
The 64-35 Senate passage has House Republican leaders "worried about bringing a nearly $1 trillion bill to the floor this summer when all the talk about been about cut, cut, cut," said Steve Ellis, vice president of Taxpayers for Common Sense, a budget watchdog group, especially because the bill is 60 percent more expensive than the last farm bill in 2008.
The farm bill, renewed every five years, helps shape the American diet and sets environmental policy on 922 million acres of land, or 40 percent of the nation, including a quarter of California.
Food stamps consume about 80 percent of the Senate bill's $969 billion cost over the coming decade. Food stamp spending has doubled since 2008 as a result of the recession, with about 1 in 7 Americans receiving assistance.
The bill would make crop insurance the primary means of direct farm support. Total spending on corn and other commodities would reach $142 billion at a time when farmers are riding a historic commodity boom. The bill trimmed overall spending by $23 billion, or 2.3 percent, and cut conservation programs by 10 percent.
California produce growers, after decades of being ignored in federal farm programs, flexed their newfound muscle by preserving funds won five years ago that purchase fresh fruits and vegetables for schools and other federal food programs.
Food activists, environmentalists and fiscal conservatives won key amendments that require farmers to conserve soil, wetlands and grasslands in return for federal aid, and that trim crop insurance subsidies to farmers who earn more than $750,000 a year.
Still, the Senate bill represents incremental change, not the overhaul that the food movement, born in the Bay Area, has been demanding with increasing ferocity over the past decade.
The bill continues to direct most of its farm support to corn, wheat, soybeans, cotton, rice, dairy and other commodities, just as it has since farm programs began in 1933. Those benefits, as they have for decades, continue to accrue to the largest farms, hastening farm industrialization and specialization.
The bill was a debut for the new committee chair, Rep. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., whose state farms mainly produce.
Stabenow and top committee Republican Pat Roberts of Kansas hailed the bill as a major reform that cut the deficit and consolidated hundreds of programs while killing traditional commodity subsidies and shifting farm support to crop insurance.
Although taxpayers pick up on average two-thirds of the cost of the crop insurance premiums, farmers also have to pony up money and do not collect payouts unless they show losses.
Still, Midwestern corn and soybean growers and Southern cotton growers won new entitlement programs that will have taxpayers cover the cost of small dips in their incomes that most businesses routinely weather without aid.
Senate leaders allowed 73 amendments, with little debate. Unlike most partisan issues that consume Washington, the farm bill pitted rural against urban interests, encouraging rare bipartisan alliances of liberal and conservative lawmakers.
Oklahoma Republican Tom Coburn joined Illinois Democrat Dick Durbin on the amendment that limited insurance subsidies to wealthy farmers.

There?s nothing like enjoying a Chocolate Eclair from a Good Humor truck on a hot summer day; munching on the cake coating and vanilla ice cream in order to get to the fudge center.
You know you want one now.
Alas, it may be a while before your local Good Humor man, or woman, will be selling the creamy treat.
The Eclair, along with two other Good Humor classics -- Toasted Almond, Candy-Center Crunch ? are victims of a shortage and you may not be able to get the products until later this summer.
?Primarily due to the unprecedented warm spring weather, as well as the routine challenges presented when production moves from one plant to others, some iconic Good Humor brands are in shorter supply via mobile vending units,? said Caroline Krajewski, a spokeswoman for Unilever, the parent Dutch company that produces the products.
The company announced last year it was shuttering its Hagerstown, MD, ice cream plant by 2013, and would be laying off about 400 employees. The plant produced the classics that are now in short supply, but Krajewski wouldn?t comment on whether the company was rethinking its decision.
One of the first Good Humor trucks
For all you ice cream lovers upset about the shortage, don?t panic yet. Turns out the three ice cream products are still available at your local grocery story.
But there?s just something nostalgic about getting a cool treat from those Good Humor trucks, which first hit the road equipped with freezers in 1920. Their creator, Harry Burt, used his son?s bobsled bells on one of the first models.
What?s your favorite ice cream truck ice cream treat??
